Bring technique advice back to the task: sound goals and checks

For the same C4 D4 E4, you might ask for separated notes, connected notes, or only even onsets. Similar-looking hands do not establish success on all three. Specify sound and time goals before choosing evidence.

Prerequisites: note names and beat, onset and duration. Staccato practice here temporarily changes a practice condition. Final articulation still returns to notation and musical context.

Three easily confused descriptions

DescriptionSource emphasisOur qualification
RelaxationFOPP-08 reduces unnecessary effort, rather than eliminating all activityA photograph does not establish muscular relaxation; source drop heights are not copied as instructions
Quiet handsFOPP-24 distinguishes smaller movement from complete immobilityApparent stillness is not acceptance of technique; its momentum explanation lacks independent verification here
Staccato/soft practiceFOPP-25 uses them to inspect and change practice conditionsNeither becomes the sole method for all styles or replaces the score's articulation goal

[Author's view] FOPP-02 favors a lower bench while allowing for body proportions and wrist position. FOPP-12 relates speed plateaus to segments, hands-separate work and movement choices. These are particular teaching preferences, not an individual's physical diagnosis.

[Our synthesis] Check reading in one hand, two-hand onsets, entry from another start and control after restoring the written articulation separately. Success under one condition does not establish the others. A speed plateau alone does not establish a bad habit.

A frame may demonstrate an error

[Author's view] Frames at 180/300 seconds of PC-002 link movement choices to surrounding notes and direction; complete ASR text was read and closing candidate text quarantined. The 60-second frame of PC-003 is explicitly an error demonstration; its 300-second frame contrasts actively spreading the hand. 3 stills per lesson were checked, without listening verification or full moving-video review.

[Our synthesis] Record whether a video passage recommends, counter-exemplifies or compares. A cropped position alone can reverse a counterexample's meaning. Stills support visible wording, not joint trajectories, force, subjective comfort or long-term outcomes.

Material not turned into exercises

[Evidence limits] Newly read FOPP-19/20 includes health inferences about breathing, endurance, meals and blood. Independent medical verification was not performed; these procedures do not become beginner exercises here. Section 21's universality, section 24's mechanics analogy and section 25's sole-method claims also remain unestablished. Source guarantees do not become ours.

Related: fingering/grouping, method evidence, immediate performance/transfer.

Turn limited evidence from five lessons into checkable questions

[Author's view] Complete ASR text for PC-004 through PC-008 was read against handbook physical pages 8–12 (printed 7–11) and 20 selected stills. These lessons discuss placement, successive double notes, finger angle, dynamics and scale crossings. This supports teaching concerns and visible labels, without listening, moving-action or effectiveness verification.

[Our synthesis] Organize them into four questions: is the next location known in advance? What are nonsounding fingers doing? Is the sound goal loudness or continuation? Does release timing interfere with the next note? Choose one and record sound and observable action. Do not estimate angles, distances or muscle states from photographs, or treat the author's injury-risk/efficiency guarantees as established rules here.

[Evidence limits] ASR at 362.88–370.88 seconds of PC-007 repeats and loses a negation; original frames at 364/368/372 seconds support the opposite written qualification. Those ASR segments are quarantined, with raw files unchanged. Text/frame comparison is not listening verification. The 420-second frame of PC-008 also retains a slow-tempo condition; one release timing is not a rule for all speeds.

Define sound conditions before interpreting movement advice

[Author's view] Complete ASR text for PC-009 through PC-012 was read against handbook physical pages 13–16 (printed 12–15) and 16 stills. The arpeggio frame at 260 seconds says the preceding note should not be too short. Frames at 98, 110 and 170 seconds in the fast-pattern lesson distinguish short from sustained final notes. The returning-pattern frame at 180 seconds retains an alternative route. Stills support written qualifications, not moving action or sound outcomes.

[Our synthesis] For the same pitch sequence, specify whether its last note is held or released and whether gaps are allowed before assessing a method. The author's lian-tiao label describes this lesson's two-note connection with a shorter ending; it does not make every slur invariably loud-then-soft. Hand balance also depends on voice roles: a particular arpeggio recommendation does not mean the right hand is always louder.

[Author's view] FOPP-28/31/33/34/35/36 address leaps, thumb use, chromatic scales, octaves, trills and hand movements. Relevant actual PDF pages 67–68, 78 and 81–85 were checked. Full trajectories, fingering-table applicability and dynamic/health guarantees remain independently unverified.

[Evidence limits] Key-feeling guarantees of 100% accuracy, compulsory stretching, continuous downward pressure and fixed neural/muscle-fiber explanations do not become beginner instructions. Movement labels and mechanical analogies locate the author's claims, not an individual's physical assessment. A still cannot measure force or prescribe joint angles.

[Translation review] FOPP-31 Chinese paragraph 2 turns knuckle into a specific metacarpophalangeal joint, adding precision absent from the word. FOPP-26 paragraph 9 also intensifies a tradeoff into atrophy of the other group. These translations do not establish joint location or muscle-fiber training procedures; the original English mechanisms also remain independently unverified.

A label cannot replace movement evidence

[Author's view] FOPP-04/30/32/41 concern hand shape, the thumb, arpeggios and playing without prior warming up. Section 30 acknowledges that Thumb Over can mislead and describes a continuum between categories; the name does not instruct the thumb to pass over other fingers. Section 32 connects hand travel with static reach, without establishing the same reach gain for everyone. Section 41's conditioning and ice-water advice lacks scientific verification here and is not adopted as an exercise.

[Translation review] Section 4 Chinese paragraph 1 reverses the correspondence between thumbnails and shoulders. Physical PDF page 15 (printed 14) points each toward the opposite side. This flags a translation discrepancy without turning the original sentence into a universal hand-position instruction. Still images and translation alone cannot validate physical movements.

[Our synthesis] Record the sound goal, tempo, surrounding notes, the person's actual hand conditions and the type of evidence supporting a movement suggestion. A first attempt after sitting down is a test condition, not a demand for cold hands, skipped preparation or an immediate difficult challenge.

[Source limits] New checks of PC-013/014/015 cover complete ASR text, handbook physical pages 17–19 (printed 16–18) and 4 stills each. Lesson 13 retains musical context for staccato length; lesson 14 relates finger changes to speed and grouping while presenting personal choices; lesson 15 explicitly asks for stopping to adjust or rest when discomfort occurs. Stills do not verify fixed distances, angles, percentages or movement mechanisms. In particular, not hurting too much is not a safety criterion for continuing. Without listening or complete movement review, these three lessons remain incomplete.

Preserve context for contact positions and ability judgments

[Translation review] FOPP-04 paragraph2 (physical15–16/printed14–15) compares distances from finger contact points to their keys’ pivots, not changes to key/pivot structure. Q-070 restores this reference without endorsing aligned fingers or identical contact positions for all hands.

Paragraph13 (physical17/printed16) changes the author’s judgment of insufficient flat-finger use into inability to use it well. Q-071 separates extent of use from ability; the author’s generational, muscular and technical generalizations remain independently unverified. Accurate translation is not observation of actual movement or proof of efficacy.

Recording an omission does not restore a physical prescription

[Source correction] Chinese FOPP-19 paragraph2 (physical48/printed47) omits an author explanation linking nasal passage, airflow and prevention of drips. Q-082 records the omission and attribution. Recovering a sentence is not medical verification, and neither it nor the ensuing breathing procedure enters the beginner route. Translation completeness, factual truth and movement suitability are separate questions.
