Piano technique: sound goals and movement organization
The right notes can still pause at a join. Begin technique work with that concrete problem, then examine fingering and movement together. Prerequisite: beat and names; try the tiny phrase in E05.
[Author's view] PDF-PC, pp. 4/39, allows individual differences and multiple solutions. Pages 7/10/11 place finger shape, loudness and coordination in context. We extract questions for study, rather than rewriting a daily substitute for the course.
[Our synthesis] Assess sound, rhythmic stability, repeatable travel and comfort together. Looking only at hand shape misses timing, loading and release; transcription alone cannot show them either.
Fingering and continuity
[Author's view] PDF-PC, p. 37, discusses adjusting printed fingering, retaining a chosen fingering, starting mid-passage, redistributing hands and substituting fingers on held notes. Historical PC-030, 124–145 seconds, and its 140-second frame support prioritizing unusual fingering marks. This segment has not been listened to again in this task.
[Our synthesis] Fingering is a route through a phrase, not a judgment about one note. Test entry from before, starting at the difficulty, and continuing afterward. If only the opening works, record that a changed entry has not yet succeeded. Memory cues, location or preparation time may be involved; one failed attempt does not identify the cause.
Groups and arrival notes
[Author's view] PDF-PC, p. 30, discusses groups crossing beats and barlines; the full page was viewed. Historical PC-026, 166.6–191.92 seconds, and its 185-second frame include the target note after a fast run. This is excerpt evidence, not full-lesson review.
[Our synthesis] Begin with the smallest difficult unit but include its connecting note. A barline organizes time; it need not delimit a gesture or phrase. Grouping changes attention and movement organization, not the written durations.
Legato, release and pedals
[Author's view] PDF-PC, pp. 26/38, treats legato and notation as expressive continua; p. 29 discusses pedal position and tone. Historical PC-031, 148–194 seconds, and frames at 155/175 seconds concern decay and pedal depth. Speech remains unverified by listening.
[Our synthesis] Record key release, string damping and loss of audible prominence separately; they may occur at different times. Pedals affect resonance and mixing, beyond a simple on/off distinction. One ASR sentence cannot establish ankle travel.
Newly checked excerpts
[Author's view] Speech candidates at 659–697 seconds of PC-001 discuss fingers working with larger body parts and an exception for extremely fast situations. The 660-second frame explicitly corrects the idea of completely immobile individual fingers. Frames at 300/304/308 seconds show positions in a single-note demonstration, without measuring joint trajectories or establishing effort reduction.
[Author's view] PC-029, 116–213 seconds, and frames at 130/138/205 seconds connect slow practice with intended movement. Frames at 153/157/161/165 seconds show different positions in a travel demonstration. These are selected stills, not a complete moving-video review.
[Our synthesis] Understanding a teacher's comparison and reproducing it oneself are different accomplishments. Complete ASR can locate excerpts but cannot verify wrist travel, speed effects, subjective comfort or stable loudness. Grams or centimeters in explanations are not universal prescriptions here.
Related: rhythm, practice, E05.
Keystroke phases and differences between authors
[Author's view] FOPP-11 separates pressing, holding and releasing a key, warning against continued strong pressure during the hold. Its specific mechanical and staccato-depth explanations have not all been independently established here.
[Comparison] Its general staccato-depth description differs from PDF-PC, physical p. 17 (printed 16). The texts do not constitute a comparison controlling instrument, speed and sound goal. We preserve the difference rather than combining them into one universal depth ratio. Assessing one's result still requires actual sound and moving-action evidence.
Separate timing, position and hand conditions in a move
[Source limits] New checks of PC-017/018/019 cover complete ASR text, handbook physical pages 21–23 and 4 stills each. Lesson 17 concerns fast, black-key-heavy passages. Lesson 18 proposes a personal method for repeated moves while retaining alternatives for longer time gaps. Lesson 19 considers hand size and comfort alongside reduced travel. Stills do not measure force, fatigue, accuracy or continuous trajectories, and cannot prescribe identical angles, distances or hand shapes for everyone.
[Our synthesis] First mark departure time, the next onset and any notes that must continue. A teacher who can observe the complete performance can then help choose movements. Fingering that reduces travel may increase stretch; one metric cannot decide the choice. PC017 ASR renders key width in kilometers; the segment is quarantined rather than silently guessing a unit for a teaching fact.
Source-translation limits: motion scope and mechanism references
[Translation review] In FOPP-11 paragraph 2 (physical 27/printed 26), the author describes a slower beginning; the translation expands this to the entire keystroke. Beginning and whole movement are different scopes. This repairs meaning only, without validating the acceleration/hammer account or prescribing a universal keystroke.
[Evidence limits] The bracket in paragraph 3 points to item 5 of the §80 grand-piano action diagram; it does not compare upright and grand pianos. The translation’s added distinction is not evidence. A later check of the original §80 diagram at physical226/printed225 identifies item5 as Center pin felt bushing; actual motion and instrument-type comparisons remain unverified. The sample report records scope and Q-059/Q-063; the source translation is unchanged.
Wide-span difficulty: adapt the task without forced stretching
[Author's view] FOPP-46 lists palm spreading, stretching and lifting methods. Paragraph9 cautions against excessive finger4 lift, while paragraph10 asks for maximal height. This contextual tension cannot become a universal motion rule. Fast stretching, fixed angles and reach-gain guarantees have not received physiological or training-effect validation here and are not turned into physical prescriptions.
[Translation review] Everyone in paragraph9 refers to people but becomes every finger; paragraph4 additionally inserts palm-up orientation not specified in the English. Q-074/Q-075 restore the subject and limits without supplying an alternative reach-test posture. Relevant text:physical104–107/printed103–106.
[Our synthesis] Original project alternative: suppose C4, E4, G4, C5 share an onset in a score. First mark the4 notes and outer span of12 semitones on paper. This decoding result does not require physically reaching the chord. If simultaneous execution is unsuitable under current conditions, record the difficulty and work on rhythm, note names or voices. Ask a teacher who can observe the hand and instrument to help choose accessible configurations, allocations or material. Any arpeggiation, omission or hand redistribution must be labeled a practice adaptation rather than silently counted as the original score completed. Retest the agreed task, not forced enlargement of reach.
[Evidence limits] FOPP-60, physical150–153/printed149–152, mixes anecdotes and medical claims. We do not adopt mirror-posture diagnosis, guaranteed massage cures, tissue repair through brief rest or playing-level safety rules. Fever, medication and breathing-mechanism passages do not become practice steps. Carpal tunnel syndrome involves median-nerve compression at the wrist; diagnosis and treatment depend on individual assessment, and surgery may be appropriate in some cases. AAOS information does not replace personal care.
If playing causes pain, stop the painful movement; persistent or recurring pain, numbness or weakness warrants assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional. A teacher guiding musical movement and a clinician diagnosing illness have different roles. Paper tasks can preserve project progress without disease guesses replacing feedback. No treatment plan, return-to-playing dose or injury-incidence ranking is provided here.
First decide which voice releases when
[Our synthesis] The six practice cards provide finer self-checks. Separate attack beat, key-hold duration and voice-specific rests before choosing fingers or pedal. The two-voice card first identifies melody; substitution aims for no added attack; both connected/detached versions retain a final-beat rest. Voices run simultaneously, so adding their durations does not yield bar length.
[Evidence limits] These are original miniatures and conditional source summaries. Six lessons have complete preferred-ASR reading,36 timestamped stills and6 handbook-page checks, without original-audio audition, continuous hand/foot observation, physical-suitability or learner-effect validation. PC-023 and PC-029 are rechecks; PC-025, PC-026, PC-030 and PC-031 add complete preferred-transcript reading. Stills do not diagnose your effort or establish injury prevention.
Record names, directions and acceptance conditions separately
[Source-translation limits] In section46 entry7 lifting denotes lifting and hand denotes the hand; arm appears in the next entry. Correct wording does not endorse fixed held-down fingers, maximal lifts or loading routines. Section30 entry28 also reminds us not to retain an early-motion goal while dropping its smooth-scale sound condition. Section35 refers to between notes, not absolute immobility throughout a trill. See Q-097/Q-101/Q-108/Q-109.
[Our record design] Separate the intended sound, whether anyone observed the actual motion, the checked time interval and remaining unknowns. For example, write “onset intervals in this short passage are closer to the target; finger motion was not observed,” rather than “hand position is correct and injury has healed.” This is evidence recording, not a new bodily exercise or health conclusion.
Turn a detail into a small task with an endpoint
Six group2 Clinic cards separate two-note connection, a short ending, detached duration, chord foreground, overlap and two-voice release. Six group3 cards address same-key attacks, route prediction, white/black-key location, duration, loudness and release before a finger change. Each retains prerequisites, small steps, immediate checks, a retest after rest and return to an actual phrase. Preparation P is independently selectable; a single-note success does not pass the multi-note task.
These are newly designed tasks; sources supply only bounded questions and teaching suggestions. All12 lessons already had full-ASR-text and selected-frame records: this batch is a rereview, not12 newly completed audiovisual lessons. Stills establish no wrist trajectory, joint safety or movement causation, and the tasks require no replication of fixed source heights or angles.
Define the endpoint before discussing movement
New Clinic detail cards separate when the old note ends, when the new note starts and whether a rest lies between them. The original PC-027 comparison holds E4 for two beats while C4 lasts only from beat2 to2-and; releasing C4 does not end E4. PC-015 designs only separated-single-note, non-glissando preparation, without requiring imitation of the source sweep. Original sound and continuous motion remain unchecked; text/stills cannot establish a physical cause.
Short source corrections also separate light touch, the étude genre and attributed TU/TO terms, avoiding direct conversion of translated wording into movement commands.
The original action-label companion explains component names while retaining seven unresolved modern-part equivalences. It supplies neither repair nor movement prescriptions and does not resolve component ambiguity in other citations.
