How much does the second dot add?
一个二分音符长度是2个四分音符单位。第一个点增加1，第二个点增加0.5。先预测总长度，再改变附点数。
A half note lasts 2 quarter-note units. The first dot adds 1; the second adds 0.5. Predict the total before changing the dot count.

Symbol and duration change together
空心符头加符干表示二分音符；右边的点延长它，不增加起音。下面的长度条从左向右累加，背景每格为1个四分音符单位。它是长度标尺，不指定拍号或速度。
The open notehead with a stem represents a half note. Dots to its right extend it without adding attacks. The bar accumulates left to right; each background cell is 1 quarter-note unit. This is a duration ruler, not a time signature or tempo.
每一份新增长度都减半
Each added portion is half the previous one
原音符占2，后续份额依次为1、0.5、0.25。两点合计3.5，而不是4。三个点也没有达到4。所有情形都只有一次起音；彩色分段只是计算拆解，不要求重新触键。
The original note occupies 2 units; additions are 1, 0.5 and 0.25. Two dots total 3.5, not 4. Three dots also remain below 4. Every case has one attack. Colored segments explain the sum; they do not request repeated keystrokes.

边界：四分音符单位不自动等于一拍或一秒。图不发声，不表示音高；实际发声的长度还受演奏法、踏板和乐器影响。附点与延音线（tie）是不同记谱方法。
Limits: a quarter-note unit is not automatically a beat or a second. The diagram has no sound or pitch. Sounding duration also depends on articulation, pedal and instrument. Dots and ties are distinct notation methods.
